Summer of 1965: Kimiko has a four-year-old son named Takeshi with Hachiro. While Hachiro devoted himself to creating his works of art, Kimiko supported the family by making tableware. Joji’s health is failing, and he doesn’t have much time left. Kimiko vows to be a pillar of strength for him. To encourage Joji, the family painted a plate together. They filled it with the carefully prepared matsutake rice made by Shinsaku and the others. Even after Joji passed away, Kimiko remained strong. Amidst this, George Fujikawa appeared.

Haru Aoyama and Kagaya Kaede have been childhood friends living next door to each other since they were four. Although they both started living alone, they now live in neighboring apartments in the same building. Kaede has harbored feelings for Haru for twenty years, but he shows no sign of noticing her whatsoever. Kaede has become overly protective of Haru, practically acting like his mother. Tired of their stagnant relationship, Kaede confides in her other childhood friends, Iori and Mio, and decides to move on from Haru. However, despite her resolve, Kaede finds herself unable to fully let go of Haru. Iori treats her gently, acting like a mature man. Seeing Kaede and Iori suddenly grow close shakes Haru. Though slow to catch on, he begins to realize his own true feelings. Yet, because of his pure heart, Haru stubbornly clings to a promise he made to Kaede’s late mother.
